Silk robes would normally call to home wear but with the kimono trend still lingering around from Spring, why not take your robe out to town?
I wanted to hone in on the kimono trend, apply that to a silk robe and create a daytime casual look. It’s fair to say silk tends to be on the high end side, so finding versatility outside of wearing it around the house or while getting ready is a bonus! In fact, we should all try and maximise the fashion items we own to get the most out of them.
Taking a spin on the delicate white robe was challenging due to the bridal and luxe loungewear vibes white silk can portray. I experimented with a few pieces to bring the casual look to life. It seemed materials and textures were key!
First to mind was denim. Opting for shorts allows you to look elongated whereas jeans may create a bottom heavy look – depending on the length of your robe. Featured in the post is a knee length robe which definitely called for denim shorts. Frayed hem or distressed denim adds a bit of ruggedness against the silk robe too.
For the top, aim for something that contrasts against the silkiness of your robe. For example knit, linen or jersey materials. This is what will make your outfit look effortless. Layering on more silky fabric will steer your look down the pyjama route (I know it’s a trend but hey, it’s not for everyone). I went for a beige cami with a fine knit material.
So what do you think, is a silk robe for daytime wear something you’d try?
