An Ultra Chic Layering Technique

Just like you layer skincare, you can layer clothes. The results are an ultra chic outfit that looks effortless, but when it comes to actually pulling a look together it can be quite daunting. So what’s the technique?

You guys might have seen this look up on my Instagram awhile back and ever since posting it, I’ve used this layering technique over and over! It’s so easy and doesn’t call for dashing to the shops and buying new clothes.

All you need are a few basics to create this layered look. First start with the base. Go for a slip or align dress in either maxi, midi or mini length. Building off this, add a top over the dress. This is where versatility comes into play – bulk it up and go for a chunky knit, or keep it light with a tee or any loose top.

Up until this point, everything seems pretty shapeless. So the final touch is a belt around the waist to accessorise the look and bring definition. There’s no hidden formula on what kind of belt will work, so you’re best off experimenting. For example try a corset style, thin belt, wrap around, or even suss out male belts!

I like doing this technique because it’s perfect for transeasonal weather. Even though Summer has landed, there’s a cool breeze lurking around. And hey, if it gets hot, just lose the top and keep the dress and belt!

I like the skirt look you can make from a dress! So handy when you feel like you have ‘nothing to wear’ haha.

You layer so effortlessly. I love that you’ve also worn a belt to add some more shape and texture x

I really like how classically elegant this is. I often do a dress/jumper combo but I love how the belt adds shape
